"Just back from my photo shoot with Charlie and Michelle. A brilliant experience which far surpassed my expectations, which were already high!"
"My makeover and photo shoot was a celebration of survival and recovery and to recognise it is never too late to discover that life is worth living and to feel beautiful."
"This was a 65th birthday present to myself and had been planned for a long time. I did a lot of research to find exactly what I wanted and travelled 140 miles to achieve my dream. "
"Why did I do it? I needed to feel good about myself after many years of trying to come to terms with my diagnosis of bipolar disorder and the impact of the medication"
"I have had bouts of depression throughout my life but in my early 50's, whilst going through the menopause, my mood swings became more extreme, resulting in some times of unreality and very deep depression, with frequent suicidal thoughts."
"I have always worked in responsible and fulfilling jobs but at times the need to hide how I was feeling was tough.......it is so much easier to show the real me now that I have retired."
"My medication contributed to a subduing of my personality and a significant increase in weight. As a result I have hated my body and often felt only half awake. However as I have been quite stable for the last 5-6 years, I asked my psychiatrist if I could try and reduce my dosage, which has proved successful.
A year on, I now feel more alive and my weight has started to reduce. I still have to be careful to monitor my moods and ensure I get sufficient sleep but at 65 I feel I have a new lease of life."
"So, my makeover and photo shoot was a celebration of survival and recovery and to recognise it is never too late to discover that life is worth living and to feel beautiful."
"But I could not have got this far on my journey without my best friend, who came with me to the photo shoot, and has been an important constant in my life for many years.
And most importantly my husband , who has always believed in me and loved me unconditionally. He has stayed by my side and held me during some dark and difficult times. These photos are my thank you to him - Ti amo.
